_____Fostering one dog at a time,
OR
______Adopting the following dog:
Name: ___________________________________ Age: ___________________________________
Breed: ___________________________________ Weight: ___________________________________
Because this agreement specifically prohibits keeping pets without the community’s permission, residents agree to the following terms and conditions in exchange for their permission:
- Resident agrees to the following restrictions on the type of dog allowed:
- Weighs 35 lbs or less
- 18 months or older
- Has no known history of aggressive, noisy or destructive behavior.
- Cannot be predominantly any of the following breeds: Akitas, Cane Corsos, Chows, Pit Bulls, Presa Canarios, Rottweilers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Jindos or Wolf Hybrids.
- Must come from a rescue and may not come from a breeder. Other situations may be considered.
- Residents understand and agree that USTU will only allow up to four member households to own or foster a dog at one time. If fostering, residents understand that approval to foster is limited to one year. If the resident wishes to continue fostering after one year, they must return to the community for approval. If owning, residents understand that each dog is approved individually and if the above named dog moves on from the household (through passing away or otherwise) and the household wishes to adopt/foster another dog, the household must return to the community for dog ownership/foster approval.
- As an approved dog owner or foster in the USTU community, residents commit to participating in the USTU Dog Committee, which includes but is not limited to: supporting other dog owners/fosters with skill share, dog care, training, assisting in implementing the USTU Dog Policy, etc.
- Residents agree to keep their dog from being unnecessarily noisy, disruptive or aggressive and causing annoyance or discomfort to others (including jumping up on people in community spaces and being mindful of anyone allergic to dogs) and will immediately remedy any complaints made through the USTU community, manager, management committee or board. Permission to have a dog may be revoked at any time by the USTU board. If the situation allows, the USTU board will make a reasonable effort to find solutions before revoking dog ownership/foster permission, such as allowing time for professional dog training.
- Residents agree that they are solely responsible for the maintenance of the above described dog, and agree to keep their dog under control at all times. All liability for any damage or injury by the dog will be the sole responsibility of the dog owner/foster.
- Residents agree to keep their dog on a leash at all times when it is outside their dwelling.
- Residents agree to adhere to local ordinances, including leash, licensing and vaccine requirements.
- Residents agree not to leave their dog unattended for unreasonable periods. 'Unreasonable' in this context varies by the dog, in-home facilities provided to the dog, the existing support network, and the feelings of the neighboring residents. However, in every instance, it is an expectation that the dog will be able to relieve themselves at least every 6 hours, excluding overnight. It is unreasonable, for example, to regularly leave a dog alone for 9 hours, or regularly leave a dog alone overnight.
- Residents agree to not bring their dog to any indoor or outdoor community gatherings, except in passing.
- If the dog is not already housebroken, residents agree to begin training immediately. Residents agree to clean up after their dog and to dispose of their pet's waste properly and immediately. As much as possible, residents agree to encourage the dog to relieve themselves off of USTU property.
