USTU Offers the Following Types of Visits:
- Guest (2 weeks or less): This category is for visitors that request to stay for no longer than 2 weeks. Guests are often friends, family, travelers, and/or guests that express an interest in the community or are in LA for a purpose that is consistent with our values and principles. No extensions are granted for this category of visitor. This category depends on unit availability. Guest requests can be arranged through Lara without community approval:
Lara Morrison, Board Member(213) 383-8684 [email protected]
- Visitor (2 weeks - 3 months): This category is up to 3 months and must be approved by the community. Visitors that would like to stay longer than 2 weeks and up to 3 months, as determined at the time of their request, will complete a questionnaire and be assigned a member liaison through the Visitor Committee. This category is expected to meet community participation requirements. The Visitor Committee will work with the visitor to identify participation expectations that can be reasonably met during their stay.
- Residency/Internship (2 weeks - 1 year): This category is for those that have a specific purpose for being in LA or at the USTU community that is directly connected to furthering cooperative and sustainable living. This may include work, an internship or a specific project in collaboration with the USTU community. If the work, internship or project is focused in the broader community then it must be aligned with USTU values.
Residency/internship requests will submit a specific description of their pre-existing residency/internship project at the time of their request. USTU does not offer an internship at this time. This category is also expected to meet community participation requirements. The Visitor Committee will work with the visitor to identify participation commitments that can be reasonably completed during their stay. Under the residency/internship category, the community may offer a Visitor residency for up to 1 year, to be determined at the time of their request.
